  • Loaf Mountain Overlook - 25 minutes from Buffalo on Highway 16, just past the North entrance of Elgin Park Road. Photographers and anyone wanting to see beautiful views of our peaks should stop for a few minutes along the way!

  • Crazy Woman Canyon - 2hrs to 3.5hrs of beautiful canyon & mountains, looping back to Buffalo!
  • Elgin Park Road - Take a drive or pick a camping spot in this beautiful loop through the forest and prairies! Elgin Park Road is a loop, and from Buffalo, the 2 entrances from Highway 16 are roughly 23 minutes, and 26 minutes).
  • Ten Sleep, Wyoming - About 1 hour from Buffalo, and on the way to/from Cody, Wyoming via Highway 16. Between Buffalo & Ten Sleep, you'll enjoy views of the amazing Ten Sleep Canyon, the Bighorn Mountains, Meadowlark Lake and many scenic turnouts!

Hiking, Camping, Horses & More

The Bighorns have an abundance of camping locations, from official campgrounds and RV pull ins, to those that can be found by blazing your own trail and backpacking in.

The traditional camping spots are labeled and accompany signposts with ORV roads.

Should you choose to park and backpack in a ways, all of the Bighorn terrain offers some of the best adventures and views in the world! Some of the most mesmerizing views are only found after a two day hike.

Please keep in mind that entering certain (especially high-risk areas) of the wilderness, may require registration and adherence to regulations.

The Big Horn Mountains are irresistible for winter sports! Only minutes from downtown, but feels like you're miles and miles away!
